Thank You

A huge thank you to everyone that donates, raises money, fosters our dogs, adopts our dogs and raises awareness of the work we do. An extra special thank you to the following:

Roly Poly Animal Foundation

The Roly Poly Animal Foundation (https://www.rolypoly.org.uk) have donated a special fund to help us fund 6 dogs in an emergency situation in 2017. We want to thank them for their generosity and announce our first Roly Poly Animal Foundation dogs. Sidney and Valio are 2 gorgeous boys who have somehow survived not only terribly injury but also the cold winter in Romania. We were able to get them ready for transport and out of the shelter for the last couple of weeks before they are arrive in their wonderful UK foster homes. Sidney was hit by a car and has lost both eyes. Valio has been a victim of abuse and abandonment and has limited sight. They will be arriving in the UK very soon and will be looking for forever homes. Both are incredible dogs. Thank you to the Foundation.

Epic fundraising

We have another huge thank you to say to another supporter (and his family). A young man named Sonny has raised a staggering £752.84 by encouraging his family to save their loose change in a pot for a year, plus a few other fundraising activities.

Sonny has a special affinity with our rescue and our dogs as he is visually impaired himself. Having known Sonny for a few years now he doesn't let this hold him back one bit so he wanted to give our VI, or other blind dogs, the chance to live their lives to the full as he does. A truly inspirational young man.

Some of the money will go to make sure that Gina's surgery is fully funded, but any left over will be used to help another needy dog.

A HUGE thank you to Sonny and his family - it is such a generous donation.

Charity horse-ride

A couple of weeks ago we were contacted by one of our supporters, Karen Gatrell, whose Jack Russell Terrier (Roxy) had gone blind very suddenly after suffering a stroke. Karen wanted to do something to help BDRUK after reading about the work we do helping blind dogs, so last weekend Karen organised a sponsored horse ride with a group of her friends. It was a huge effort on her part with a big group of horses and riders riding through the Essex countryside and ending up at a pub! She set up a JustGiving page for people to donate and ruthlessly begged and cajoled her friends to pay up - even threatening to unfriend anyone who hadn't donated! Her husband, John, also agreed to match the donations himself which was incredibly generous.

Last night we learned that Karen and John's huge generosity and hard work has raised £2,900 for our charity. We are so incredibly grateful that they found us and wanted to do something to raise vital funds. With such a large amount of money we are able to help dogs which haven't had a chance until now. Thank you to everyone who took part in the ride, and to Karen and John - and Roxy of course! We are always extremely grateful when people help us to raise funds. We rely completely on donations to keep going and sometimes have incredibly large vet bills to pay. Every penny counts and every donation is gratefully received, however large or small.
