Gorgeous, big-hearted Louie!
What a life he has had.
Louie was found on the streets of Bosnia, being attacked by other dogs. When his rescuer took him to the vets, it was found he also had fragments of shot in his body.
On first veterinary inspection, it was thought that Louie had muscle atrophy in a section of his heart. However, since coming to the UK and settling with his forever foster family, the veterinary diagnosis has been revised. Louie is no longer thought to have heart disease; in fact, that previous diagnosis can probably be explained by severe distress following his traumatic experiences.
This makes sense. Louie suffers terribly from nightmares, which we assume are related to his traumatic attacks. He rolls his eyes and howls in anguish. He was a nervous boy when he first came into foster - afraid of the hoover, afraid of the car. He’s now much better with many of the things that once scared him, and we very much hope that his post-traumatic nightmares will become less regular and severe as time goes on.
Louie is currently under investigation at the vets regarding a twitch in one of his hind legs. It is possibly neurological, possibly a result of suffering from Distemper in his previous life. But it doesn’t hold him back one bit… he absolutely loves yomping around the secure field and agility course.
On first arrival, Louie also had an auto-immune virus detected in his eye. This has been medicated and is now under control.
Louie has a lovely home with foster Mum and Dad and dog companion, Ella. At first Louie took fright when Ella startled him during one of his nightmares, but now their friendship is developing beautifully. Louie will slow down and ‘wait for Ella’ on command.
