FOSTER OR ADOPT OPPORTUNITY

This is our precious black Truffle. Born c. 2018, 20kg and fully sighted, Truffle has been kept in the same cage for six years.  Most of her life.

Truffle was brought to the Adjud Public Shetler in Romania - an overcrowded and miserable place for stray dogs - with her daughter in 2020.  They have never left their pen since.

But now both dogs have a chance at life.   They have been identified by the charity Annie's Trust (which as many of you will know, focuses on relieving conditions in the shelter) to be two of the few lucky dogs who may make it to adoption in the UK.

And now they have names!

Both mother and daughter have been thoroughly vet checked and received any necessary treatment, including dental work.  Both dogs are now at their best - perhaps a little overweight as they have never been exercised - and are preparing to travel as Blind Dog Rescue UK dogs.   Let's do our best to change their lives.

Brie, Truffle's daughter, is also availalbe for foster/ adoption with us. Truffle and Brie can be adopted together or separately.   They may also be fostered together or separately.

Both dogs are happy and sociable with people and other dogs.  Both have also recently passed their cat tests (as you can see in the videos).

Truffle and Brie are both calm and very sweet, always pleased to see their shelter workers.  Just look at Truffle dancing and playing in the video when someone comes to the bars of the cage!  Truffle is probably the more obviously playful of the two; despite appearing to have a rather sad face in some of the photos, she absolutely comes to life with attention and play bows like a youngster.

As the vast majority of volunteers at the Adjud shetler are women, and as both dogs spent time on the street, they are both understandably nervous around men initially. As with so many aspects of their lives to come, they will need patience, love, understanding and slow introductions.

Both mother and daughter are described as having a medium energy level, although of course it will take time for them to flourish in their new homes and find expression of their true needs.  We can't wait to see their happy endings.  Could you be part of them?

Please note - we do not rehome dogs to families with children under the age of 10.

Type of Home Sought

A quiet home with a garden.  After being caged for six years, introduction to a 'normal' dog's life will need to be very slow and patient, and adopters must be willing to put time and effort into rehabilitating.

Truffle and Brie can be adopted together or separately.  Both dogs could live with other dogs.  Both can live with cats.  In all cases patient careful introductions will of course be required.

Please read about our Adoption process. We really appreciate it when potential adopters have read our advice, and these are the people who are most often successful at application stage! https://www.bdruk.org/rehome

Our adoption donation is £325. This includes travel to the UK, their vaccinations, pet passport, microchip and all preparation for travel. They also come with 5 weeks free insurance (excluding The Channel Isles & Isle of Man).
