Last year in Smederevo, Serbia, a beautiful female pup was abandoned at the side of the road. She had very limited sight, and would not have survived for long.
By incredible chance, a volunteer from a local shelter found her. Now healthy and living in the private shelter, this c. 11 month old, 12kg beauty has ‘a smile that never leaves her face’, and a name to match: ‘Stela’, (meaning, ‘Star’).
Stela is a happy, playful girl who loves people and other animals. She is good with dogs and cats, and children.
She won over the staff at the vets with her beautiful behaviour; in fact everyone who meets Stela is charmed by her gentle and affectionate nature.
Stela’s vision has been examined by a veterinary ophthalmologist at a specialized eye clinic in Serbia. The examination confirmed that she has multiple congenital abnormalities affecting both eyes. Although her vision is significantly impaired, she is not completely blind currently. During the examination, she was able to track a cotton ball with both eyes (under both good and poor lighting conditions) and successfully completed a maze test. However, due to the abnormalities affecting her retina and optic nerves, her vision may deteriorate in the future, and she could eventually lose her sight completely.
Apart from her vision impairment, Stela is completely healthy. She has been spayed, and is ready to find her forever home.
Stela is an active and energetic young dog who loves running around in the company of people and other animals. She as worn a collar and harness and walked on a lead; she has been in a busy urban environment. However, Stela has never lived in a house before, so training will be required as Stela settles into her new life.
Stela loves cuddles; she is used to being picked up and loves human touch and company. Her rescuers say ‘she truly loves being around people and will happily follow her humans wherever they go’.
Like any dog with a disability, Stela will need a little patience and lots of love as she settles. But will reward her new people with lots of gingery grins, curly tail wags and tippy toed agility. Although her sight is limited, her eyes shine brightly like little stars.

Type of Home Sought
Stela can live with other dogs and cats, but it is people that she loves most. Ideally, and especially to start with, her new person or people will be around for much of the time to settle her in.
Stela would like a garden and plenty of exercise and mental stimulation befitting an energetic pup.
Stela has never lived in a house before, so will need patience and training as she settles into her new life.
Stela will be ready to travel to the UK in September 2026. (Titer test date 22.06.26)
