FOSTER or ADOPT required for partially sighted Brittany Spaniel, Ruby Tuesday.
Born 2021, 12.5kg and originally from a rescue in Portgual, Ruby has been in Sussex with her owners since 2022.
Ruby lost her sight recently and suddenly due to SARDS (Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome) - a medical condition that causes blindness in dogs when the retina stops processing light.
Ruby has become totally blind in her left eye and partially sighted in her right eye. The transient lifestyle of her owners means that Ruby struggles with orientation and is frequently startled by dogs and people and bumps into things. Hence we are looking for a new home for Ruby, one that is well suited to her new needs.
We are looking for a calm, confident permanent or foster home who will be sensitive to the fact that Ruby is adjusting to her sight loss.
Ruby’s new home / foster must be rural and have a calm, older dog present as a companion for her. (Initially, it will be necessary to separate the dogs just while Ruby settles). She will need people to be home based and provide a quiet and relaxed environment.
Ruby was bred as a hunting dog in Portgual but was abandoned as she did not like the sound of gunshot, although nowadays Ruby doesn’t mind noises, even fireworks. Ruby is a happy, confident, intelligent, well socialised, versatile dog. She has always been very well behaved and is very lovable.
Ruby is very affectionate and sensitive. She is quite independent and prefers not to be cuddled and petted too much but will happily sleep on your bed given the chance and will not pass up a chin scratch or a belly rub, ever!
She has lived happily in a home with other dogs but does not like boisterous dogs or puppies invading her space. She loves to chase around a field after her squeaky ball but she is also good on a lead.
Ruby is happy to eat most things, she loves liver, chicken and rice or dry food. She likes to gnaw on a nice fat bone every now and or a stuffed Kong. If you leave her alone in the kitchen unsupervised she'll empty your bin! She's not keen on being left totally alone, but is happy with another dog.
Despite Ruby’s recent sight loss, she still loves walks out though but now spends more time snoozing. She likes a lie in nowadays and won’t wake you up at the crack of dawn!
Ruby has a pet passport and is fully vaccinated.
