Rocky
Character
Rocky is a debonair and elegant German Shepherd gentleman, retired from a professional career in security. He weighs 29kg, was born in 2016, and is currently fostered in Coventry.
Rocky’s fosterer says she has never met a dog who walks so beautifully on the lead. Rocky is sedate, considerate and rarely pulls. Having worked for most of his life as a security dog for a business in Spain, Rocky has been carefully trained and is sociable, friendly and calm when meeting people. He accepts his treats very politely, and has a beautiful, dignified air about him.
Although retired, Rocky is healthy, active, playful and very mobile; not showing any signs of slowing down. He was retired because he has Pannus (inflammation of the cornea). This is easily managed with eye drops and ointment (approximately £56 per month) and does not stop Rocky living a full life. Rocky would love to accompany you on lovely long walks and adventures. As he is very sensitive to having his claws clipped and has needed sedation previously, pavement walking would be very helpful!
Like many of his breed, Rocky is determined to show his loyalty; he craves the affection and attention of the special humans he loves to serve. Rocky is prone to attention seeking and separation anxiety. This behaviour may be significantly reduced if he is able to be around his new owners more consistently, and indeed with time.
Rocky can live with other dogs, pending successful introductions. He tends to get on better with females or submissive males. Initial dog reactivity on walks has been corrected successfully by his fosterer, but he will need this reinforced by his new owner so that he does not revert. Rocky is a clever chap and is very responsive to training.

Type of Home Sought
Rocky would be best suited to owners who understand German Shepherd breed characteristics - his loyalty and needs as well as potential guarding issues. Rocky prefers firm boundaries; he enjoys the positive discipline he would have experienced as a working dog. He will be best suited to an adult only home, with no cats. Just as importantly, this happy and grateful chap is looking for love and affection, and people to care for.
Our adoption donation is £325. This includes travel to the UK, their vaccinations, pet passport, microchip and all preparation for travel. They also come with 5 weeks free insurance.
