Character

“He’s such a happy, happy boy and absolutely loves to play.”

Meet Parsley; born 2019, partially sighted, 10kg, neutered, and currently in foster in Serbia.

If you follow BDRUK you may remember Parsley: the little dog found in terrible condition in July 2025.  He had been hit by a car and sustained an eye injury and damaged front leg.  You, our supporters raised funds for his immediate veterinary care.

X-rays showed there was no break in Parsley’s leg, but as he displayed neurological symptoms he was kept at the vets for observation. These symptoms subsided after a few days, so he was released and moved to his foster home to recuperate.

Parsley’s damaged eye has sunken in, but despite his loss of vision it doesn’t bother him or affect his daily life. New owners may need to keep it under veterinary review and watch out for any changes.

His leg is now much improved; he suffered some nerve damage so does still have a limp, which is more pronounced when he’s tired or when it’s cold, but he is happy to walk and run.  In fact he is a bundle of energy (8 out of 10)!

Parsley is looking for a home with an intermediate level of experience, or one that will be prepared to put in a little time and effort. He may be small, cute and fluffy, but he’s a livewire who loves to play and run around. Like many little dogs he says hello by jumping up onto your legs.  As he has probably had very little guidance in the past, he will need input to correct any unwelcome behaviour.  Parsley also has a grooming requirement to keep all that fluff under control!

Parsley is good with other dogs and loves to play with them as shown in his videos. He will sometimes stand in front of bigger dogs and bark at them for no apparent reason, possibly to get them to play.

Parsley was in very poor condition when he was found so can be protective of his food around other dogs. He can growl at them if food is present but has never actually done anything more. To help him grow out of this behaviour, adopters should feed him separately and remove any potential causes of conflict like long lasting treats.

Parsley has been introduced to a cat. He was interested in the cat and was keen to say

hello. He may be able to live with cats with sensible introduction - as he’s a busy dog they should be confident dog-savvy cats.

His character is described as “affectionate, cheerful, and playful”. He is good with people and loves cuddles. He is very forward in asking for affection and likes to nibble gently on his carer’s hands.

Parsley recently spent a few days with his rescuer who said he didn’t make any mess in the house, slept well, and played nicely with her dogs. After his initial excitement about his new environment had settled, he was obedient and calm. “In these few days we’ve had the chance to see that he truly is a wonderful dog.”

Type of Home Sought

Parsley is looking for a home with a garden so he can play and have fun. He needs a home who are prepared to put in training as he is still a work in progress. He will need a patient home that provides a good level of mental and physical stimulation, while being mindful of his leg.
