Character
‘Whoever adopts Nesta will be truly blessed’. This is the assessment of Nesta’s fosterer. An adorable blind Spanish Mastin cross, Nesta was born in 2023, and is 28kg. She is fostered in Cheshire.
Nesta was found wandering the streets of Hellin, Spain. She was taken to the pound but mercifully was rescued into a Spanish foster home where she lived with another dog and lots of cats, all of whom became her friends. Currently she enjoys three other blind dogs as companions.
Nesta is a beautiful, happy, playful young dog with so much potential. She knows and responds to her name, has excellent recall, is fully house trained and is very polite and sociable with other dogs. Her personality is gentle and tender, and she wants to be loved very much. Nesta seeks out her human, follows them around and sits loyally with her head in their lap. There is something about her big, proud, vulnerable face that makes all the visitors fall in love with her and want to help her.
Outdoors Nesta enjoys running free like a typical puppy loving life. She has the high energy level expected for a young dog, but she is happy to burn it off outside and sleep and settle at home. She is quiet and composed and not prone to barking, although her puppyish enthusiasm does mean she can be clumsy sometimes; she loves goofing around ragging a tea towel! The right adopters will find her idiosyncratic quirks and traits endearing – the slightly odd gait to her walk, her preference for turning to the right.
Given her difficult start in life, Nesta was initially nervous in foster. She was wary of men at first but has grown to be comfortable around them over time and now is happy to meet them. She lives currently in a female-only household, but her fosterer is confident she could live with men as well as women just as long as the right adopters are prepared give her time to trust.
Nesta was also initially afraid of vehicles, but now walks past traffic very happily. She also has learnt to travel well.
Nesta will take time to settle in a new environment, perhaps spinning or showing signs of stress and anxiety in her new environment initially. Her fosterer has put effort into her training to ensure there is no food or toy aggression.
Nesta’s response when scared is never aggression or defensiveness: her default is to back off or attempt to flee. Nesta has responded excellently to training and being so food-orientated it’s been easy to train her. She is such a happy, willing girl with whom it is a pleasure to work.

Type of Home Sought
Nesta currently lives in a quiet, rural home at present and would probably be best suited to similar. She will need a little patience at first to settle into her new home, so patient and experienced adopters will be required. She would like a fairly active household with experience of large breeds and can live with other dogs and cats.
Please read about our Adoption process. We really appreciate it when potential adopters have read our advice, and these are the people who are most often successful at application stage! https://www.bdruk.org/rehome
Our adoption donation is £325. This includes travel to the UK, their vaccinations, pet passport, microchip and all preparation for travel. They also come with 5 weeks free insurance (excluding The Channel Isles & Isle of Man).
