Character
Gorgeous Lola. The loveliest, sweetest, gentlest dog. That’s the assessment of her foster carer in Kent.
Lola is a little deaf, a little wonky, and partially sighted, but she’s very friendly, loves people - men and women - and adores being around children. She is a tall but slim dog with a lovely shaggy coat, slow and easy to manage, and weighs about 20kg.
Lola was a street dog for most of her life, living in Serbia and relying on the kindness of locals. One day she was caught and taken to one of the worst high-kill shelters in Serbia. One of our rescuers saved her and took her to live in foster. She is now in foster in Kent with two other rescue dogs of about the same size, a male and a female.
Lola walks beautifully on the lead, is very happy to wear a harness, isn’t bothered by noises out on walks, and loves meeting people. She particularly loves children (reported form her Serbian foster home), so a home with visiting grandchildren would be lovely for her.
Lola steps happily into the car, and jumps up onto the sofa, but hasn’t attempted stairs. She may need some assistance with high steps or cars. She really loves being outside, pottering around a garden, sniffing, rolling and sunbathing, occasionally thinking she might chase a squirrel, but deciding against it. It is not known how she is with cats.
Lola tries to be clean in the house; she is doing well but as she is currently acclimatising to new food and water, there is the occasional accident. Hopefully this will improve as her tummy settles (week 2 in foster at time of writing).
Lola’s ideal home is with relaxed dogs who won’t be bothered by some of her little ways. Due to her age, partial sight and partial hearing, she can sometimes sniff a bit too close to the other dogs, annoying them without her knowing. She isn’t always good at reading their social cues and body language, and on occasion she will defend her own rights to ‘her’ bed or the sofa. She is gentle and means well but can be surprised if another of the resident dogs warns her off. Lola could also live as an only dog.
Lola would need her people to be around for most of the time, as she isn’t delighted about being left alone. Sometimes she barks when she is left alone, but only when she has access to the garden. She is not destructive at all, and already her discomfort is settling down nicely (she has only been in foster for a couple of weeks at the point of writing, so we would expect as much). But because of her lovely nature, it would be a shame if she wasn’t able to be with her people most of the time.
Lola responds well to calmness, so a nice calm household would be ideal for her.
Lola can be wary when meeting new dogs, so adopters will need to ensure introductions are done respectfully and slowly.
Although Lola is still a beauty, she’s had a tough life, and it shows. She has a few lumps and bumps. She has some missing teeth, and the ones left are not in great shape. She is partially sighted due to cataracts and has reduced hearing. Her whole left side is a little wonky. But Lola takes this all in her stride, in her gentle, noble way. That makes her even more adorable.
We are looking for a calm, relaxed comfortable home for Lola with adopter(s) who have some idea of how difficult her life must have been. Could you spoil her rotten?
