Loki

Meet Loki, the amazingly loving blind husky. Loki is approximately 5 years old and weighs about 20kgs, which means he’s a small example of his breed. Loki is currently in foster in Bosnia and is due to be neutered soon.

Loki was found on the street at Christmas. Due to his breed, behaviours and nature, it is clear that he was once somebody’s pet. Possibly his owner abandoned him as he was blind.

Loki’s blindness is due to suspected Uveodermatologic syndrome, an autoimmune disease which had likely gone untreated and uncontrolled for a very long time. Dear Loki has been left with shrunken eyes, which have a blueish eye tinge.

Loki has now been examined several times by a veterinary ophthalmology specialist, so we are able to give detailed information about his condition. But don’t be put off by the medical jargon!  He has already received treatment and is stable. For his adopter(s), it is simply a case of continuing his medication and monitoring, as we all do for our beloved animals.

Loki has responded well to Neoral (cyclosporine) tablets, and his eye pressure has returned to normal. He does not need any further treatment but will need to stay on his medication to ensure his condition stays stable (many dogs only need one capsule every 7–10 days to keep it under control). A routine blood test (mainly liver enzymes) is recommended every six months while on cyclosporine, as is the case with many veterinary drugs. With appropriate treatment, Loki can continue to live a happy, comfortable, and completely normal life. The ophthalmology specialist is very pleased with his progress and current condition.

Loki is now a happy, healthy boy who often appears to be smiling in his photos. He is stunning with all his husky floof, snowy fur and the classic mask which makes a heart shape on his face.

Loki is an extremely friendly, affectionate and loving dog. He is friendly with everyone he meets -  he’ll even have cuddles with the vet. He’ll happily snuggle up with another dog in his bed or groom the cat. He is a fluffy love bomb.

Loki is used to living in a home environment and currently lives with cats and dogs. He can wear a collar and harness and walks well on a lead. He doesn’t require long walks as he is low energy.

Loki would thrive in a loving and patient home where his blindness is not seen as a limitation. He is an affectionate, friendly dog who enjoys life and being around people, dogs and cats. His adopter/s should be willing to continue his medication - in return you will receive snuggles from this special, loving boy.
