Character
Last winter in Romania, a very beautiful, heavily pregnant dog was brought to the Adjud public shelter. The next day she gave birth to six puppies, of which only two survived.
That beautiful dog now has a name: Juniper, or Juni. Thanks to Annie’s Trust, she was identified for rescue through BDRUK and was one of the four Mission Possible dogs for whom we fundraised last Christmas. Juni, along with her son Jude, are now in foster in Moray in Scotland. Both are settling very well, and Juni is ready for her forever home.
Juni, (c.16kg) is a tallish, slim dog with an elegant grey wire coat, a rather sophisticated air and a very charming little Fu Manchu beard. She also has large hairy paws.
In some ways, you would hardly know Juni was a rescue dog. She is calm and laid back, takes life as it comes and is now very used to living in a home. She sleeps through the night, is quiet and calm, walks beautifully on a lead and adores human attention.
She can still be a little unsettled at times, not liking the sound of loud noises or the clanging or metal gates, but she doesn’t panic or react, she just stops. Juni will counter-surf given half the chance. Juni’s fosterer usually keeps temptation away and dogs out of the kitchen when food is prepared. Time and further training will of course help; Juni is by no means ‘finished’ and she will probably be quite nervous to start with and may temporarily regress in her new home.
Juni is very sweet and loving, always happy to see her foster Mum. Sometimes she licks and nibbles on her hands. She likes having people around but isn’t clingy; she’s happy to laze on the sofa rather than follow her human about. She’s a self-sufficient girl.
Juni has a moderate energy and isn’t one to bound about, preferring to trot along demurely on the lead (never pulling) or sit and watch the world go by.
Juniper is great with the other dogs in her foster home (of which there are 4 including Jude) and has been good observing and meeting other dogs on walks, although in general she prefers to take herself away from them, not being super interested.
Juni is often admired for her sophisticated looks, and has a lovely calm, soft personality to match them.
Fosterer update - June 26 - 'Juni is doing so well, still quite wary of new areas and noises but in a quiet way. She really bonds with a person and always looks to them for support if unsure of the situation. She always has a waggy tail on her walks and calmly approaches new people for fuss and kisses.
She has been on her training walks and will go wherever needed sometimes with a little encouragement but she always happily goes mostly with food! She has crossed a busy road at the pedestrian crossing and walked up the road of the town centre and wanted fuss from everyone we met. She then came back to the park over the busy road on a bridge, needed a bit more food again but did very well.
She is still very good in the house and has claimed the settee as hers. She does still counter surf and between her and Jude, there has been the loss of a dozen eggs, 2 blocks of butter which they have managed to take the lid of the butter dish and remove the butter from the bottom plate on two occasions, I am hopeful that I have learnt my lesson and now remember to put the dish away after use immediately. I have yet to learn to put the cutlery used in the sink as I will often retrieve them from their beds!'
Please note - we do not rehome dogs to families with children under the age of 10.
Type of Home Sought
Juni is an easy going dog and as such will fit in many places. She would be best in a quieter home, probably not somewhere too urban. She would like her own garden.
Juni can live with another dog or dogs but would also be happy as an only dog.
She cannot live with cats as she barks at and attempts to chase them.
She can live with older dog-savvy children or teenagers who can manage the fact that she does like to jump up in excitement and nibble affectionately on fingers.
