Heidi

Fully sighted Heidi, a sweet, clever, well-trained girl of c.14kg, is looking for a new home due to severe illness in the family.

Heidi was adopted as a 3-month-old pup in 2021; she was one of the Annie’s Trust dogs from the Adjud shelter in Romania. Heidi has lived in her current Cornish home with cats, children, teenagers and another dog since then, and is much loved. But the family’s circumstances mean she is not getting the exercise and mental stimulation she needs. Please help us find her the right home.

Heidi’s family say that being such a clever dog, and so food orientated, Heidi has been easy to train. She knows many commands and will walk nicely to ‘heel’.  Having been trained as a puppy she is very used to living in a family, and by nature she is eager to please.  Heidi loves human attention and company.

Heidi is fully housetrained, sleeps well through the night in her bed downstairs, and travels well. She bonded instantly with the vet and behaved nicely on her visits.  She eats well and isn’t at all fussy.

Like many clever dogs, Heidi is a sensitive soul. The clatter of the ironing board will send her scampering off in fear. Visitors to the house (of which there are not many), need to be introduced very carefully and slowly. Traffic, cyclists and horses can also sometimes spook her.

Although she is nicely lead trained, Heidi can be reactive on walks if she is barked at or approached by an off-lead dog. Heidi has never shown any aggression, but spins or flips and panics in fear. Her family find it hard to calm her down after such an episode. They say they would like to see her homed with a ‘confident’ person or family, as a reassuring presence is exactly what Heidi needs.

Heidi’s ideal walks are in quiet places without many people or dogs, places where dogs must be kept on lead, or visits to a secure field, where she can bomb around in a place of safety to her heart’s content.

When all is calm and well, Heidi has few things to worry about and shows no fear. She is happy meeting calm dogs on lead, and her holidays spent boarding on a farm with 20 other dogs seemed to bring out the best in her. She enjoys the company of the other dog in her current home and has lived with cats without issue except on one occasion. We always recommend slow introduction to cats.

Heidi is an affectionate little dog who just loves to be part of whatever you’re doing, and she loves touch and cuddling. She is a bright dog who needs engagement, and we are looking forward to seeing her flourishing in a new place.
