Character
Harry is an adorable, blind, black and white English Springer Spaniel puppy; born in the UK on the 10th January and currently in foster in Dumfries and Galloway, UK.
Shortly after giving birth, Harry’s mum became very unwell and needed life saving surgery. This meant her dedicated owners had to hand rear all her puppies.
Despite all the care in the world, puppies without their Mum’s milk are more vulnerable and liable to infections. Sadly three of the ten pups caught eye infections, and although all were successfully treated one - Harry - was left completely blind in both eyes.
The vet has assessed Harry and noted he has one very small eye, and one ulcerated eye. Both Harry’s eyes will need to be removed when he is bigger. This will require some contribution from the adopter.
But like all blind dogs, Harry is just getting on with his lovely life. He is very independent and plays with his siblings. He is one of the largest pups and has met all development milestones. He is eating well and is just gorgeous, as you can see.
Harry will be available for adoption once he has had further veterinary assessment, vaccinations at 8 and 12 weeks, and microchipping. He will be available from the end of March onwards, but we are accepting applications now.
Please note - we do not rehome dogs to families with children under the age of 10.
Type of Home Sought
Harry would like a garden and an active home, befitting his breed type; somewhere with lots of stimulation and fun.
Like all puppies, blind and sighted, Harry will need training. Experience with raising puppies, and the patience and special commitment needed for a blind pup.
Harry will need a canine companion in his new home - one that can put up with or enjoy a puppy!
It is not known how Harry is with cats, but puppies can usually be safely inducted if owners are experienced and careful.
Please read about our Adoption process. We really appreciate it when potential adopters have read our advice, and these are the people who are most often successful at application stage! https://www.bdruk.org/rehome
Our adoption donation is £350. This includes travel to the UK, their vaccinations, pet passport, microchip and all preparation for travel. They also come with 5 weeks free insurance (excluding The Channel Isles & Isle of Man).
