Ava
Character
Meet Ava - a partially sighted Australian Sheepdog born on 16 August 2025, currently 7kg (18-25kg when full grown) and about as perfect as a puppy can be.
She is currently in foster in Coventry. We are pretty convinced she won’t be there long.
Ava was surrendered because it was thought she was blind. But her foster carer soon discovered that Ava does have some sight. She’s never bumped into anything indoors or in the garden and, as you can see from her pictures here, she loves looking into the camera lens and making everyone fall in love with her.
Ava was initially very subdued and had a head wobble. At the vet check, it was noticed that her eyeballs also wobbled. Put together, the clues point to some neurological damage, either at birth or from a subsequent head injury.
As Ava is so young, it is impossible to say which of her symptoms will improve and to what degree. It is possible that she will recover well and regain some sight. At six months old, Ava will likely have come to a point where her condition is stable (and will no longer improve).
Already her fosterer has noticed an improvement in the head-wobble, and Ava seems to be coming to life - she’s found her voice and turned into the naughty little playful puppy she should be.
Ava, of course, has no idea she has any disability.
We think Ava will grow up to be an ‘aimable’ adult - quite submissive, very friendly when meeting people, trusting, and with very good emotional intelligence around other dogs.
She travels beautifully and behaved perfectly at the vets. Fireworks and traffic do not bother her.
She is a clever girl and learnt her name immediately. She sleeps well and goes back to sleep in the night when told. She is learning to use her puppy pads during nighttime. She is getting used to having her lovely floof brushed.
Ava loves cuddling, playing with the other dogs, putting her paws in the water bowl and undoing shoelaces of visiting tradespeople.

Please note - we do not rehome dogs to families with children under the age of 10.
Type of Home Sought
Ava can live with other dogs - she lives with three other dogs (including Rocky).
It is not known how she is with cats but given her age we see no reason why she would not be able to grow up with cats (given proper supervision and experience of course).
Ava will grow to be a working breed type dog, so she will need exercise and stimulation in a moderately active to active home. Her adopter(s) will need to have all the usual commitment and patience required when taking on a partially sighted puppy.
Our adoption donation is £350. This includes travel to the UK, their vaccinations, pet passport, microchip and all preparation for travel. They also come with 5 weeks free insurance (excluding The Channel Isles & Isle of Man).
