Character

Lively, greedy, glossy-coated happy doofus, anyone?

Astor’s your boy. Born 2021, 25kg, fully sighted and currently in a private shelter in Serbia.

Astor was rescued from the streets in 2023; found with a broken front leg.  Then, at the vets, an x-ray showed small calibre ammunition lodged in his chest.

During surgery, a rod was inserted into Astor’s leg to correct the break. The pellets were judged best not removed as they were not lodged in vital structures or causing any symptoms. The rod has now been removed, and Astor has bounced back wonderfully.  He runs and walks normally and is an active boy who loves to play and explore. He loves people and radiates vitality.

As a young hearty dog, Astor is boisterous and energetic and is looking for a home where he can goof around. He will need a home that provides a good level of exercise, but more importantly, mental stimulation through games, sniffing and scent work, for example.  Astor travels well and loves his walks, running around, chasing a ball or playing tug of war.

Astor is looking for a home with an intermediate level of experience, or one that will be prepared to put in a little time and effort.

Astor grew up on the streets. He was very thin when he was found so has known hardship and the need to protect what little he could find.  Hence, Astor can be possessive around food and toys when there are other dogs present.  He may be tempted to take toys or lasting treats like chews and bones from other dogs in the home.

To help him grow out of this behaviour, new owners will feed him separately, avoid lasting treats, remove potential causes of conflict, and put in a little training. This is entirely do-able, and not unusual for ex-street dogs.

Astor has been overlooked for adoption in Serbia.  Although he is perfectly active and mobile (and looks beautiful), the surgery has left him with a crooked leg. For that reason, nobody wants him. It will be different here, Astor!

Type of Home Sought

This lovable goofball is good with people and can live as an only dog or with other dogs (when his possessive behaviour is managed properly). He has a high energy level and will need a home that provides a good level of mental and physical stimulation.

Astor would love an active, reasonably experienced or just a patient home that is prepared to provide some further guidance and training. Astor is waiting to find his family so he can share all his big-headed, brown-eyed loveliness.
