Tommy
Character
Meet Tommy - a blind, 9kg Terrier, born in approximately 2020. To be honest, Tommy isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. He’s a grumpy, opinionated, and rather pedantic little chap. If you’re prepared to play by his rules and expect no expression of gratitude in return, Tommy may be the dog for you.
Tommy always likes to have the last word. If you tell him not to bark, this clever boy knows exactly what you’re asking. And he will oblige… with one more little bark after you’ve finished speaking. Sometimes he teases you by pretending to come when called. He’ll come part way, face you, consider it for a while, then insult you by walking off.
In his previous life, Tommy was a street dog in Bosnia. Life would have been tough for such a small guy. We think he may have been hit by a car; he was found with a significant injury that resulted in his eyes having to be removed surgically.
But you’d hardly know Tommy was blind. He will pelt across the garden utterly fearlessly when he needs to shout obsessively at a passing truck. He will walk tirelessly with you for as long as you want. He loves playing with his toys and, although he probably won’t let you join in with his games, he will happily share playtime with other dogs.
Tommy isn’t nervous; he is confident and comfortable in his own little world: he sleeps well, eats well, travels well, settles well, and is fully housetrained. He behaves beautifully at the vets, has no trouble being picked up and will permit you to give him a bath. Sometimes he even allows you to stroke and fuss him….although only when he comes over to ask for it.
Tommy is very self-sufficient. He isn’t a cuddly dog by any stretch of the imagination, and he may never be. But his independence is quite admirable in ways. Perhaps if you already have a dog that likes fuss, Tommy is a nice contrast and a character to have around. He isn’t much trouble and he doesn’t ask for much really: he puts himself to bed at 8pm and sleeps through till morning, often enjoying a lie in.
Despite his grouchiness, there are things about Tommy that can bring a tear to your eye: how soundly he sleeps now he has a comfy bed, and how much he has made it his own little space. Just every now and then when you look around, you’ll see that he has come to sit by you. A little way off, mind, but he’s definitely there. He loves his walks; he’s friendly to the other dogs he meets and his tail never stops wagging.
We don’t imagine there will be queues around the block for this little chap, but maybe there’s a patient someone out there who would find his attitude somewhat endearing and funny, and who will maybe even grow to love his silly little ways.

Type of Home Sought
Tommy would like a garden and would probably prefer to live with another dog or dogs. He tends to bark at loud sounds of passing traffic, so somewhere where traffic was not too noisy or frequent would probably help.
Our adoption donation is £325. This includes travel to the UK, their vaccinations, pet passport, microchip and all preparation for travel. They also come with 5 weeks free insurance (excluding The Channel Isles & Isle of Man).
