Leao

Please meet lovely Leao.
Leao is around 8 years old (as of July 2024). He is neutered and weighs 20kgs. Leao is partially sighted and has reduced vision in his right eye. He has uveitis and is receiving ongoing treatment for ulcers in his left eye.

Leao was rescued by the shelter in August 2021 from a hoarder situation with 26 other dogs and was in a poor condition.

He is a very sweet boy and loves people. He loves cuddles, tummy tickles, walking on lead, lounging around and enjoys treats. He is a firm favourite at the shelter and they try to spend as much time with him as possible. He is a people dog and finds the shelter a stressful place as he just wants to spend time with his carers, but with so many other dogs to look after, this is difficult.

Leao behaves well in public and when out on lead, and will sit nicely at a café with his walker. He has no reactivity out in public, and has gone on walks ignoring other dogs. He walks well on a lead. However, due to his previous experience he does not like to share his home with other dogs or cats. His rescuer understands that this makes it difficult to rehome him, but they keep trying because he is such a nice boy with adults and children.

Leo started having health issues in 2023 and takes medication for erythrocytosis which he should remain on. In February 2024 he had two tumours removed, one on his face which was benign, one on his chest which was level 1 malignant, but with the amount of the mass removed the hope is this will not return.

Due to his health the shelter is desperate to find him a home as they hope being in a clean, calm, loving, stress-free environment will help improve his overall health.
