Jessie
Character
Please meet gorgeous Jessie.
Jessie was adopted from Blind Dog Rescue UK in 2013 when he was about 2 years old. Jessie's owner has sadly passed away, so Jessie is looking for a new home that can help heal his heart.
Jessie is in good health for an older dog and weighs 20kg. He adores being fussed and is fine with other dogs. He has lived with cats and quickly learnt to give them space.
Due to his early life experience he is wary of men until he gets to know them, but adores women and young adults.
His foster home have taken him to the groomers and he behaved impeccably and is looking very dapper.
Jessie has a story to tell and it’s quite incredible.
He was originally from Russia and lived in a yard where he was fed and provided shelter in cold weather. He was cooked a hot meal every day. He was described as a gentle boy, never rushed, just wagged his tail. Then a little before the Christmas holidays he just disappeared. No one knew what had happened to him. Then one morning he crawled back into the yard severely injured - it was discovered he had been beaten by local teenagers for fun.
For a month Jessie was on the brink of life and death, one eye was blind and the other lost some vision. Veterinary help was sought, medicine bought, and a shelter was built for Jessie, to keep him warm, while he was nursed back to health.
When Jessie got better, a search began for a permanent home for him. It was clear that Jessie would not survive alone, especially in a hostile environment. A local news station was approached, and Jessie and his rescuer were even on the TV! But still no offer of a home in his native Russia.
Jessie’s search for a home became a family affair.
Elena (Jessie’s rescuer) and her sister Anya (who lived in Cyprus) contacted Blind Dog Rescue UK for help. Jessie flew from Russia to Cyprus where he stayed while plans were made to fly him to the UK. On the 11th September, many years ago he arrived into a UK foster home, where he was loved and looked after until his adoption.
Please note - we do not rehome dogs to families with children under the age of 10.
