Character
Every now and then a dog comes along that has something about them.
You're not sure exactly why you feel this, but you know you must do everything you can to help them.
Bak is that dog. He’s large - about 40kg. He’s older, maybe 10 years old. He’s black. He’s partially sighted. He’s got one ear that won’t stand up properly. He’s got everything stacked against him. But we are going to do our best to find him a home.
Bak (which is pronounced ‘Buck’) was brought to our attention by a rescuer in Serbia. She described a ‘really good dog’ who was ‘quiet’ and ‘very sociable’, got on well with all the other dogs and loved human affection. She explained that at the shelter he was known as ‘The Gentle Bear’ because of his lovely temperament. She then said she was asking for our help because Bak was so sad she feared he would lose the will to live.
Bak once had a family; he lived with them for 4 years. But they decided they no longer wanted him and took him to a state shelter. He stayed there in abominable conditions for 2 years before our rescuer was able to relocate him to a private shelter.
Although the physical conditions are better here, Bak lacks interaction with people, and it is thought that he has spent a year here without human contact. As the rescuer says, ‘he’s the kind of dog who loves to be next to his people… but… nobody pats him ever for the last 12 months… he’s been nobody’s dog for over three years.’
Bak is a healthy dog. He has had a small infection on his tail from an ingrown hair but has received treatment.
Bak shares a kennel with 2 other dogs and has never shown any aggression towards them or reactivity to other dogs. It is not currently known how he is with cats. Bak has lived with a family before, but it is not known whether he lived indoors.
We would love for Bak to spend his latter years in a loving home in the UK.
If that home isn’t yours, please share to help us find it.

Please note - we do not rehome dogs to families with children under the age of 10.
Type of Home Sought
A kind loving and patient home. Bak may need patience as he adapts. Larger breed or Shepherd experience would be helpful. A garden to mooch around in would be ideal. With or without other dogs. But most of all, someone or some people to love.
